Michael Laschet
Colour, Shape, Structure and Movement.
Michael Laschet is a creator in the realm of colours. He utilises their
light and energy. The painter makes colours flow into one another, puts
them beside and above each other, not only to create dynamism and interaction,
whilst colour's power increase in their effect and primordial energy,
but moreover he uses colour synergies to create harmonies and tensions.
The irregular, often abstract coloured shapes in Michael Laschet's works
define themselves through a specific inner ring. The curves, waves or
spirals and the intricate structures emphasise or deaden the effects of
the colours. A fascinating composition always follows the concept and
the preceding experiments.
The principle of creative autonomic painting is also an important factor
in the artistic creations of Michael Laschet. In this respect, the acrylic
paints, some of which are mixed with aggressive substances, demand fast
and impulsive handling. The use of most different techniques and of homemade
tools also follows this principle closely.
The master introduces movement as a part of the composition into his
works, following the rule that every movement has an opposite movement.
Michael Laschet occasionally steers the liquids in his paintings by repositioning
the canvas or board - which is often lying on the floor. He does not just
use a brush, but also applies paint with various tools and materials,
sometimes using diverse spraying techniques or even his naked finger.
If something should happen by chance during his preliminary experiments
and exercises, despite very mature and polished technique, this seeming
highhandedness tends to reappear in his work. The painter continually
creates new dialogues between colour, shape, structure and rhythm.
The principles of movement and dynamism can be known and experienced
in different ways in the linear expression, and the dynamic structures
in Michael Laschet's, often drawn with charcoal two hands ink sketches.
